The Thundering Roar of Compassion

Translate the phrase “Let’s Go!” to Italian and you have the name of a highly rated restaurant, Andiamo, along with its bighearted owner’s outlook on life. “Whoever walks in here is treated like friends and family,” says Don Dickstein, an Englewood Health Foundation Trustee. And on September 8th, Don will welcome hundreds to Haworth, NJ for the Andiamo Motorcycle Charity Run.

The  Andiamo Benefit Motorcycle Run was founded by Mr. Dickstein and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.  “It is a very uplifting event,” he says. With nearly 1,000 motorcycle riders participating and an after party attended by more than 2,000, he adds, “There is a great spirit around the Andiamo Run. Everyone looks forward to it.”

Over the years, the restaurateur’s passion for motorcycles (he became an avid rider 35 years ago) has raised more than $1 million to benefit Englewood Health and other nonprofit organizations. Our clinical team has always held a special place in Mr. Dickstein’s heart, and the connection grew stronger when his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer a number of years ago. “The care she received was phenomenal and the relationships we established with the doctors continues to this day,” he notes. The experience inspired a greater commitment as a donor, Foundation Trustee and ambassador to the wider community.

“I have watched our local hospital grow into a major healthcare organization,” Mr. Dickstein says with a measure of pride. Yet, he clearly appreciates Englewood Health’s patient-centered focus. “I want my patrons to feel truly welcomed when they come through my  doors. That is the same feeling I have every time I arrive at Englewood Health.”
